Ah. yes,  here is the little Annie under sail at last. There is no greater rush than feeling  a craft of your own making, accelerate and move out across the lake. Then to be able to sail her anywhere on the lake, well it's all like a waltz.

Why do men build boats. In the same way women give birth to our children so men must also give birth to something. So men build things like boats to quench their birthing needs.

Here a friend of mine is helping me prepare Annie for her first dip in the brine. We are launching her at Bowman's Bay, the bay just South of Rosario Beach. This is really close to Deception Pass.

This is Annie under construction fairly close to being finished. It takes a lot of determination to finish a boat. I have come to believe that it takes almost three times as long as you estimate  to finish a boat.

I made all of the ancillary gear as well, which included sewing her sail and carving a nice set of  traditional oars.

This is my first boat on her maiden voyage. She was built from plans out of Popular Mechanics which a neighbor shared with my family because he thought I would enjoy building a boat.

That's my nephews Terry and Jim, my first passengers.

As I look back on building this boat I am reminded of wonderful parents who let me fulfill many dreams like building a boat, climbing mountains, SCUBA diving, building underwater cameras, and skiing. These were all things that they were not priviledged to take part in when they were children with the exception of skiing which my father did on the hills around Roslyn, WA.
